Synopsis:

I find myself wondering whether the author saw a different movie than what I did. I thought "Flight 103" was an absorbing story of one of the greatest acts of mass murder against civil aviation prior to September 11. Yes, there is a bit of "faction" woven in that shows the conspiracy unfolding. However, that is a relatively small element and is drawn from reasonable inferences made about the facts of the case.

Whatever you do, don't decide to see it or not see it based on my review or the guy who hated it (alone). If it's on HBO, it's worth a look.

I have seen this film many times. Each time, I get emotional because of the tragedy that might have well be preventable if politics didn't interfere in the first place. Pan Am was a giant in the airline industry. It no longer exists except on ebay. i have read everything about Pan Am 103 and the it's tragic loss. While they finished filming this movie, teh investigation was still ongoing. It's chilling listening to the narrator of the film. You have to wonder why it happened in the first place and fast forward 13 years to the events of September 11, 2001. Had we have listened to the report in 1990? Had we have followed instructions to prevent a catastrophe. You can't blame Pan Am for that one because they were out of business.

You can't help but get angry that we didn't listen and follow the suggestions for safer airline travel. Watching the actual footage of the crash still sends chills down my spine. I also read Dan and Susan Cohen's book which is a must read about their own personal experience. Some people have found that book to be too negative and critical. But the Cohens were right about so many things and since they lost their only child in the tragedy, you can only imagine the horror of that mild December day in 1988. Of course, Pan Am was too worried about losing money. The airport officials were too busy worrying about losing time and money on the ground. The terrorists succeeded by the holes in airline travelling. We'll never really know what happened to cause the disaster in Lockerbie. It's sad that this is the only movie based on the events. I'll probably by the video again and watch. I have bought and given the video to several teachers hoping that they would teach the students about what happened on December 21, 1988 in Scotland. May we never forget the 270 who perished in what could have preventable including 35 college students returning home from a semester abroad, the families, and the American civil service men and women who were on their home from Germany to celebrate the holidays.

THIS IS A 12" LASERDISC AND WILL NOT PLAY IN A DVD PLAYER
